What is wantbeans.com all about?

Want Beans is a site that helps you find cafes and coffee houses that are worth visiting. By creating an account you can review and rate coffee shops that you visit so that other people know where to get a good latte.

I have to create an account? Urrrgh!

You know what the situation is with spam. To stop a lot of spammy reviews and ratings, you will need to register to rate and review cafes. You can of course browse the site and search for cafes without being a registered member. To remove some of the pain, we've integrated OpenID into the site so you can register with your OpenID.

I can't create an account!

We do require certain pieces of information when you register with us and these are marked on the signup page. If you think you've given us all the information we need and you still can't create an account, drop us a line and we'll look into it.

I can't find my local coffee house! How am I supposed to tell everyone how great it is?

We rely on information being provided by our users. If you can't find your local cafe, add it!. You will need to provide the full address and you can find links to our recommended business search tools on the New Cafe page.

I can't add a new cafe.

If your cafe isn't added, you should be able to tell why from the messages that are shown. If the cafe is failing to be added in a mysterious way, let us know. It's probably a problem with the part of the site that plots the cafe on a map. It's been known to place cafes in the middle of fields!

What are the greyed out badges on my profile?

To encourage user participation, various badges are awarded for certain amounts of interaction with the site. For example, you will receive badges for reviewing and rating certain numbers of cafes. You'll also receive badges for adding cafes.

Is the information I give you kept private?

Your profile is viewable by anybody as are your reviews. The information you provide as part of registration will not be disclosed to any third party. We operate from the United Kingdom and are subject to the provisions of the Data Protection Act 1998. You can read more about our thoughts in this area in our privacy policy.

Is there anything I can't post on the site?

Your participation on the site is subject to our terms of use. In short, you can't post anything that is untrue and likely to cause harm or damage to a third party. We do not moderate reviews and you are expected to be responsible for your own actions.

I own a cafe and somebody has written something bad about my business.

We don't moderate our members' reviews. In all likelihood, we haven't been to the cafe so don't think it is fair to deny them their right to express an opinion. You are more than welcome to register and post a rebuttal.

I have an idea for Want Beans.

We really do welcome any ideas and suggestions and ask that you send them to our dedicated suggestions inbox. We can't guarantee that we will use your idea as but we do consider each suggestion seriously.
